JIRI GOKYO CHO-LA PASS EBC TREK

everest
19 Days
Challenging

Overview

Starting from the roadhead at Jiri, this 19-day trek is the most complete way to experience the Everest region on foot. The trail crosses multiple ridges and river valleys through the Solukhumbu lowlands before climbing into the high Khumbu, then links Gokyo Lakes, the Cho La Pass at 5,420 meters, and Everest Base Camp in one grand traverse. It is the route that the early Everest expeditions followed, and walking it gives you a sense of the full scale of the Himalaya.

The lower sections pass through warm forests of oak and rhododendron, terraced hillsides, and ethnic Tamang and Sherpa settlements that see very few foreign visitors. The trek builds fitness and altitude tolerance naturally over the first week before reaching the high country. By the time you stand at base camp or on the summit of Gokyo Ri, you have earned those views in a way that a Lukla flight cannot replicate.
